Explore and Adore Kasol and Manali: A 9-Day Himalayan Adventure

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Embarking on a journey to the serene hills of Kasol and the adventure-packed Manali was a dream come true. This 9-day trip, organized by Invincible NGO, took me from the bustling city of Ahmedabad to the heart of the Himalayas. From scenic train rides to thrilling treks and cultural explorations, here’s a detailed account of my unforgettable experience.

Day 1: Departure from Ahmedabad

The adventure began at Sabarmati BG Junction, where I boarded the Ahmedabad Jammu Tawi Express at 11:05 AM. With a reporting time of 10:00 AM, I arrived early, buzzing with excitement. The train journey, spanning 28 hours to Pathankot, promised to be an experience in itself.

Pro Tip: Bring books, cards, or games like dumb charades to make the long train ride fun. I also savored delicious Rabdi at Abu Road and Pudi Sabji at Jodhpur, ordered via the IRCTC app using my PNR number.

The day was spent chatting with fellow travelers, playing Antakshari, and soaking in the anticipation of the adventure ahead.

Day 2: Arrival at Pathankot & Journey to Kasol

Waking up to the golden wheat fields of Punjab was magical. The cool breeze and endless landscapes felt invigorating. The train reversed at Firozpur Junction and reached Pathankot by 3:00 PM. After unloading luggage, I had free time until 8:00 PM to explore the bustling Pathankot Market.

At 8:30 PM, we began our overnight road trip to Kasol, with frequent halts for safety and comfort. The winding roads and starry skies set the tone for the Himalayan adventure awaiting us.

Day 3: Acclimatization & Manikaran Temple Visit

We arrived at Invincible’s Kasol Basecamp in Sumaropa at 8:00 AM. The campsite, nestled behind Whoopers Hostel, was a cozy retreat. The Campsite Manager briefed us and introduced the team, followed by fun group activities and team-building games led by senior instructors.

Post-lunch, we visited the sacred Manikaran, a pilgrimage site for Hindus and Sikhs. The hot springs, temples, and Gurudwara were awe-inspiring, and the serene landscape felt like a balm for the soul. We also explored the vibrant Kasol Market before returning for dinner and a briefing about the upcoming trek.

Day 4: Travel to Manali & River Rafting

Manali River Rafting

After breakfast, we set off for Manali. En route, I tried river rafting (at my own cost), which was an adrenaline-pumping experience as we navigated the gushing Beas River. Some opted for paragliding, soaring above the stunning valleys.

In the evening, we visited the historic Naggar Castle, a beautiful blend of Himalayan and medieval architecture. After depositing extra luggage at the Camper’s Store, we settled into the Manali Base Camp for the night.

Day 5: Trek to Advanced Basecamp

The real adventure began as we started trekking from the Manali Base Camp. After a few hours of hiking through lush trails, we reached the Advanced Basecamp, where we were allotted tents or local homestays. The evening was magical, with a campfire under the starry sky. We sang, danced, shared stories, and bonded with fellow trekkers.

Highlight: The campfire conversations were heartwarming, creating friendships that I’ll cherish forever.

Day 6: Trek to Snow Point & Back

Today was all about snow! We trekked to the Snow Point, where we indulged in snow games and slides. The thrill of sliding down snowy slopes was pure joy. After a fun-filled day, we returned to the Naggar Campsite for a lively DJ & Garba Party, dancing the night away under the Himalayan stars.

Day 7: Manali Sightseeing & Paragliding

Paragliding in Manali

This day was a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. I explored Manali’s attractions, including temples, waterfalls, and the local market. Some of us went paragliding, while others wandered through the charming streets, tasting local delicacies. After dinner at the Manali campsite, we departed for Pathankot at 8:30 PM.

Tip: Don’t miss the local handicrafts and warm momos in Manali’s market!

Day 8: Return Journey to Ahmedabad

We boarded the Ahmedabad Jammu Tawi Express from Pathankot Junction at 10:20 AM. The 27-hour journey back was filled with reflections on the incredible week. The Camp Leader suggested trying food at various stations, and I relished the flavors along the way.

Day 9: Arrival at Ahmedabad

We arrived at Sabarmati BG Station at 1:40 PM, tired but overflowing with memories. As we dispersed, I felt grateful for the breathtaking landscapes, thrilling adventures, and new friendships forged during this trip.
