Choosing the Right Surfing Board Starts with Knowing What You Need

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Shopping for a surfboard isn’t as simple as it sounds. There’s more to it than just picking something that looks good. Whether it’s the first time riding waves or looking to switch things up, knowing what kind of surfing board to look for makes a big difference. Materials, shape, size — all of it matters. And when browsing through an online surf shop, it’s easy to get lost in all the options, especially with new models coming out every season.

What to Look for When Picking a Surfboard

Some go straight for performance; others need comfort and control. For beginners, soft surfboards are usually the go-to. They’re forgiving, more stable, and safer to fall on. Those who’ve spent time in the water may be hunting for something lighter, faster, and a bit more aggressive. Fortunately, there are a lot of cheap surfboards for sale that still offer solid build quality. Not every upgrade has to break the bank.

Here’s what to consider before choosing a surfboard:

  • Board size and shape are based on skill level.
  • Volume and float for balance and stability.
  • Materials (foam, epoxy, fiberglass) for durability.
  • Intended wave type or local conditions.
  • Surfing board price versus expected performance

Also, many beginner surfboards for sale are designed for easy handling and progress in small waves. These boards won’t last forever, but they’ll get the job done. When browsing options from the best surf shops online, it makes sense to compare dimensions and not just rely on looks. The right choice usually balances comfort, control, and a decent glide.

It’s Easy Enough to Order Online – Just Don’t Rush It

A lot of surfers now buy surfboard gear directly from trusted stores on the web. It saves time, offers more variety, and often leads to better deals. But still, a bit of research helps. Before placing an order, double-check specs, size guides, and reviews. Most good stores list accurate surfing board price ranges, plus honest product feedback.
Some of the best options — especially cheap surfboards for beginners — sell out fast, so it’s smart to decide early. Shopping through this reliable online surf shop – https://kiteboardingasia.com/product-category/surfboard/ also gives access to proper support in case anything’s unclear.

I’m Devesh Chauhan, a travel writer, explorer, and the founder of MainAwara. For me, travelling is not just about visiting a destination - it is about experiencing the journey, discovering places beyond the usual tourist trail, meeting people, understanding local culture, and collecting stories along the way. Based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, I combine my love for travel with my passion for long-distance motorcycle journeys. Over the years, I have explored destinations across India by road, on motorcycle, and through independent trips. These journeys have taken me from the beaches and temples of Odisha and Gujarat to the deserts and landscapes of Kutch, the historic cities of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, the mountains of Himachal Pradesh, and the spiritual destinations of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. One of my memorable journeys was a solo motorcycle ride from Ahmedabad to Jagannath Puri, Odisha, covering a long-distance route across multiple states. I have also ridden through several memorable circuits, including Ahmedabad–Bhavnagar–Diu–Somnath–Dwarka–Jamnagar–Rajkot–Ahmedabad, and the Kutch circuit covering Dholavira, Nara Narayan Sarovar, Koteshwar, Bhuj and Ahmedabad. My road journeys have also taken me from Ahmedabad to Agra and Mathura, travelling through Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Kishangarh, Jaipur, Dausa and Bharatpur. Closer to home, I have explored destinations such as Polo Forest, Idar and Saputara. Beyond Gujarat and Rajasthan, I have explored the Spiti Valley circuit in Himachal Pradesh, destinations across Maharashtra including Nashik and Sambhaji Nagar, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. My travels in North and Central India include places such as Kashi Vishwanath in Uttar Pradesh, Ujjain, Omkareshwar, Gwalior and Indore, along with several nearby destinations. What I Share on MainAwara Through MainAwara, I share firsthand travel experiences, detailed travel guides, road-trip itineraries, destination guides, travel tips, things to do, places to visit, and practical information that can help other travellers plan their journeys.
